The 2016 IAFF MDA Softball Championship was played in the Greater Prince Georges County, MD area on September 8th – 11th.  This year Loudoun County was able for the first time to have three teams entered into the tournament.  There were 48 teams playing in the Open division and 14 playing in the 40 and over division.  The teams this year were Loudoun Fire 1, Loudoun Fire 2 and Loudoun 40 and over (old and busted).  Below is a list of who was on each team.  It was a good year for Loudoun this year as Loudoun Fire 1 finished 4th, Loudoun Fire 2 finished 25th and the Loudoun 40’s finished 14th

For a recap on the tournament:

Loudoun Fire 1 defeated Philly FD and PGFD 2 on day one.  On day two Loudoun Fire 1 defeated FDNY “Brothers” in a tight game, but then were beaten by Miami FD to put us in the looser bracket, later that evening (11:30pm) took down Metro Cleveland .  On day three, Loudoun Fire 1 took down Louisville FD, Providence Fire and then were knocked out of the tournament to Dallas Fort Worth.  Loudoun Fire 1 played in a total of 8 games for the weekend.  A special congratulations goes out to Lt Blaine Keyser and FF David Reaver for being chosen for the “All Tournament Team”.

Loudoun Fire 2 defeated Baltimore County on day 1 but was beaten by Metro Cleveland later that evening.  On day two, Loudoun Fire 2 started out with Wilmington FD and beat them to face off against Anne Arundel County next.  Unfortunately Loudoun Fire 2 was taken down and knocked out of the tournament after that loss.  Loudoun Fire 2 played a total of 4 games for the weekend.

Loudoun “Old and Busted” played VA Beach FD and FDNY “Titos” and unfortunately loss each of the 2 games they played in and were knocked out of the tournament.  This was the first year for the 40 and over team!!!
